Stronghold, also known as “Castle Hill” or “Frying Pan”, is the oldest monument in Sopot - the remains of an early medieval fortress from the 8th to 10th century, situated on a moraine hill in the city centre.
On a charming hill, in the immediate vicinity of Sopot's hotels, cafes and sandy beaches, an early medieval settlement was reconstructed. The wooden palisade, fortified gate and thatched huts faithfully reflect the appearance of former Pomeranian towns. Visitors can stroll through the open-air museum and take a look inside the huts, where old tools, weapons and everyday equipment of the inhabitants from centuries ago are displayed.
Families with children especially enjoy this place - the youngest ones are attracted by a pen with friendly goats, while for the older ones, numerous attractions have been prepared: pottery workshops, demonstrations of ancient crafts or re-enactments of battles from the past. In the summer season, the castle comes alive with festivals, outdoor events and sometimes also atmospheric night-time shows.
What is important, Grodzisko is located only a few minutes' walk from the very centre of Sopot. It is a great idea to spend a family afternoon or an interesting alternative to the beach in cooler weather.
